DHE Data Recovery Services

If the media is inaccessible we will first test the components and closely examine the drive platters to determine the extent of physical damage, which enables us to layout a course of action for each individual drive. Hard drive data recovery involves replacing failed components such as read/write head assemblies, logic control components and drive motors in a clean room environment. In most cases, the recovery process involves restructuring of the data by examining the low-level data sectors and determining what fixes to file system structures are needed to gain access to the logical data. Using highly sophisticated techniques and proprietary equipment and software, our engineers are able to fix and recover data from raw images of all operating systems. We use only non-destructive data recovery processes that use drive sector cloning. This means we pull data from your drive on a sector by sector basis, and we work directly on the clone. This will ensure your drive is not damaged further and that a second image of the original structure can be acquired if needed.

After determining what steps will be necessary to complete your recovery, we will contact you for your approvall.. No work will be done without your approval. As soon as you approve the recovery, our technician will continue with the recovery effort, validate the data and place it on a suitable replacement media, whether that is another drive, CDROM, DVD, any other media of your choice.

The 7 most common symptoms of data loss...

(and what you can do to get it back!)

Clicking Hard Drive
A clicking hard drive can indicate a head crash, corrupt firmware on the drive's ROM chip, an electrical problem like a burned chip, blown heads, a bad pcb controller, overwritten servo's, damage to the hard drive's platters and alignment issues from being dropped, jarred or a power surge.

System Blue Screens
When your system blue screens when you try to boot or during the middle of an operation, it can mean the operating system has been damaged, there may be bad sectors on your hard drive that the system is unable to read, your hard drive could be failing, you might have a virus or trojan, someone may have deleted critical dll's or system files, the partition or file structure may have become corrupted or damaged.

Drive Not Formatted
A drive not formatted error usually indicates the hard drive's partition has been damaged, deleted or corrupted. It can be caused by a virus, a hard re-boot, a power outage or surge, disc partitioning utilities and sometimes updating software, anti-virus programs or simply installing new software can damage a partition.

Computer Keeps Re-Booting
The most common reason a computer keeps re-booting over and over is because the boot sector has been hijacked by a virus that creates a continuous loop. It keeps telling the system to go back to the boot sector and re-boot.

System Freezes or Hangs
When your system freezes or hangs while trying to boot or while accessing a file or program it usually indicates that there are bad sectors on the hard drive and the system is unable to access the information it needs to open the file or load the program. It can be caused by a corrupt file or shared program files that have conflicting call procedures or too many system resources are being used (the system memory gets full or overloaded).

Drive or Device Not Found
When you get a message telling you the drive is not ready, hard drive or device not found it could mean the hard drive is bad, the boot priority in bios has been changed, the partition structure is damaged, or a virus has infected your system.

Operating System Not Found
An operating system not found message typically means that the operating system files are damaged, the boot device priority has been changed, the partition table is damaged or the hard drive has been formatted.

More about Data Recovery

Hard Drive Recovery

DHE provides recovery service on a full range of hard drives and operating systems including:

IDE, EIDE, SATA and SCSI hard drive assemblies All makes and models of laptops and notebooks

Operating Systems:

  • UNIX
  • Novell
  • Windows
  • DOS
  • XENIX
  • Linux
  • MAC
  • And more!

RAID Data Recovery

Our dedicated team of RAID engineers are trained to handle all of the current server hardware platforms as well as commonly used legacy systems utilized in the market today.

Complex fault-tolerant systems can also suffer from a crash. Often, failure to correctly implement these systems leads to point of malfunction and can cause data loss. This is human error and not shortcomings of the technology used or the design of the array.

Even the best-configured system can fail due to:

  • RAID Controller failure
  • Multiple drive failure
  • Accidental replacement of media components
  • Accidental reformatting of drives or whole array
  • Array configuration lost
  • Intermittent drive failure resulting in array degradation
  • DHE has extensive experience in recovery from failed RAID's, including parity-distributed and basic spanned or striped volumes. We only require the active members of the array in order to recover lost data – no controllers, cables or enclosures.
  • If you are asked for the original RAID controller or array system by a data recovery company, be careful – you may be risking recoverable data to an inexperienced firm!

Every single RAID data recovery case which arrives at our labs receives high priority importance because we know and understand them to be a top priority for most organizations. Our disk recovery process, coupled with our ability to produce a safe sector-to sector dump of the complete volume, allows us to process an array as a collection of image files. Recovery of crashed members of the array is similar to hard drive recovery procedures.

All further procedures to recover data from array members are done on the raw images, leaving original drives intact. Our advanced software tools will extract the data from the images. When a drive image is not available, the tools can reconstruct the data 'on-the-fly' in the same way that the RAID rebuild process would have done on the original system.

After determining what steps will be necessary to complete your recovery, we will contact you for approval . No work will be done without your approval. As soon as you approve the quotation, our engineers will continue with the recovery process.

Exchange and Mail System Recoveries

E-mail servers are an integral part of businesses' ability to succeed in today's environment. A critical services database that changes very often, such as messaging and collaboration data, should be fully protected by a well-tested backup solution. However, back-up devices can also fail leaving the client with serious problems. Standard repair utilities within the mail applications can cause further damage if media failure or structural damage has occurred. In fact, these routines will often increase the damage.

Using our industry recognized expertise in recovery on any kind of media or drive configurations, we can recover Exchange Server .EDB, .STM and .LOG files prior to the repair of the database itself.

We support Microsoft Exchange Server versions 5.5, 2000 and 2003.

Our Microsoft Certified Engineers are able to recover the mailboxes located in the Information Store from just about any kind of "Jet Engine Error", "Read Verification Error", database corruption, over sized files or problem with the Information Store files in general.

  • Typical situations:
  • Inconsistent file state
  • Dirty shutdown
  • Corrupted header information
  • Write errors
  • Duplicate keys (Identifiers)
  • Deleted mail boxes
  • Our engineers can recover your email-boxes that are in your Exchange Server database file or repair the database file itself.

Standard service included:

  • Recovery of email addresses from Active Directory storage
  • Recovery of folders, messages and file attachments
  • Recovery of notes, contacts, tasks and appointments
  • Recovery of creation dates for all objects
  • Formatting recovered for RTF and HTML messages
  • DHE also has the capabilities to recover your Exchange Server Information Store Files from many forms of backup tapes.

***Widely available recovery utilities can delete valuable data!
Make a copy of your .EDB, .STM and .LOG files prior to:
Attempting to attach or repair a damaged Information Store
Opening a tech support case with Microsoft Sending your database to any other company After determining what steps will be necessary to complete your recovery, we will contact you for your approval.

No work will be done without your approval. As soon as you approve the quotation, our engineers will continue with the recovery process.
